MS Computer Science Admission Info
While most applicants apply intending to be a degree candidate seeking a graduate degree
or certificate, you may also apply as a non-degree seeking special student. To apply as a
special student, you must meet the same prerequisites and requirements as a degree seeking candidate, as
listed below.
- Completed and submitted application form
- Application fee of $75 (waived for graduates of the Whiting School of Engineering)
- Official transcripts from all college studies

Applicants must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 (B or above) scale in the latter half of their studies
or hold graduate degrees in relevant technical disciplines
- Must have received a grade of A or B in each of the prerequisite undergraduate computer science courses
- Must have completed the following course work: one year of calculus; a course in programming using a modern programming language such as Java or C++; a course in data structures; a course in computer organization; and a mathematics course beyond calculus (e.g., discrete mathematics, linear algebra, or differential equations)
- Applicants who have not had a course in a modern programming language may satisfy the requirement by completing 605.201 Introduction to Programming Using Java. The data structures requirement may be fulfilled by completing 605.202 Data Structures. Applicants who do not satisfy the computer organization requirement may complete 605.204 Computer Organization. The course 605.203 Discrete Mathematics may be used to satisfy the requirement for a mathematics course beyond calculus.
